With new product releases this list is constantly expanding to cover new products. IECEX certification is available on some of our products in addition to ATEX & GOST. Please contact us if the item you need is not shown as this list may not be up to date.
ATEX certification for hazardous area installations
Industrial installations can have gases, vapours and dusts in the atmosphere that when combined with a heat source or spark would create the possibility of an explosion. Sites are classed depending on the likelihood of the explosion risk being present continuously, often or accidentally and suitably certified solutions can be chosen with equal or higher safety classification.
Continuous risk: Category 1, Zone 0 gas, Zone 20 dust
Regular risk: Category 2, Zone 1 gas, Zone 21 dust
Accidental risk: Category 3, Zone 2 gas, Zone 22 dust
Products with numerically lower category certification may be employed in a higher category environment. For example Exd classifications are suitable for Zone 1 Category 2 atmospheres but can be used in Zone 2 Category 3. Note that gas and dust risks have different classifications and not all products are tested or certified for both. If you need a dust classification contact us to check.
There are several different hazardous area classifications, ATEX being the European standard. IECEX is also requested but that standard doesn’t recognise mechanical risks, only electrical. ATEX does cover mechanical risks such as friction, static charge build up etc., hence we can offer purely mechanical and electrical devices with ATEX certification for Zone 1 areas.
Note that not all Exia products are suitable for Zone 0 environments due to material and design constraints limiting the certification standard.
